The Ferris St. Scholarship Fund

The 1999-2000 school year will realize the achievement of a long standing goal of ASPE Chapter 70.  We have established a scholarship endowment at Ferris State University for Construction Management majors.

Chapter 70 has enjoyed and benefited from the support of Ferris State Construction management faculty and alumni.  Professor Ed Brayton has been a key member of our Estimating Academies.  Also, Ferris State supporters have been guest speakers at our meetings and participated in the Regional Conference that was hosted by our Chapter.

A cornerstone of ASPE is to facilitate and encourage further knowledge of our profession.  By establishing this scholarship, ASPE Chapter 70 is taking significant steps towards fulfilling this important goal.

Some facts about the scholarship are as follows:

  1. The amount of the scholarship will be equivalent to 25% of the cost of two semesters of tuition and fees. (At this time about $1,000 total or $500 per semester.)
  2. The scholarship will be awarded each semester.  It is renewable by the same student, however, the recipient must meet the eligibility requirements each time the scholarship is awarded.
  3. The Ferris State Construction Management Faculty will select the recipient.
  4. Criteria for selection include:
  • Student must be a full time junior or senior level student enrolled in the Construction Management Program.
  • Student must be ranked in the top 25% of their class and have a minimum Grade Point Average of 2.8.
  • Financial need shall be considered as a determining criterion.
  • Candidates must have participated in student organizations.

All members of ASPE Chapter 70 should be proud of this achievement.  Particularly anyone who participated in one of our two Estimating Academies.  The revenue from the Academies is providing the funding to establish the Endowment.

Now that the endowment is established, our next goal will be to GROW the endowment.  We need to contribute more money to the fund in order for our scholarship to be self supporting.  At this time Chapter 70 will have to pay for a portion of the scholarship each year.  We need to get it to the point where interest earned by the principle amount invested will cover the scholarship pay out.  Your help in growing the endowment is critical.  Please be responsive to up coming information about how YOU can participate.
